Welcome to Valley Road Academy. We are a very successful, happy and inclusive school and every decision we make is to achieve Success for All - our school motto. We believe that everyone belongs to our school family, sharing our Valley Road Values. We respect each other, learn and grow together, and have high expectations for everyone, regardless of ability.
Our school is the place where children can be the best version of themselves, becoming successful, independent, responsible young people with high aspirations. We have a diverse community and celebrate all cultures and beliefs to promote tolerance and respect. We are proud of our local heritage, and we ensure that with regular visits and visitors, our children have a clear sense of identity, community and culture.
We are extremely proud of our achievements; for the past three years, our Key Stage 2 results for progress and attainment place us in the top 20% of all schools across the country. Our children see themselves as being successful, not only academically but also in achieving social and sporting success. We hold the Gold Active Sports Award, Silver Primary Science Award, and the International School Award. In June 2019, we were awarded the Platinum Anti- Bullying award as we believe everyone has the right to feel safe in school, and also hold the bronze Rights Respecting School award.
Our lessons are always exciting and stimulating – from Spanish and gymnastics to residential visits and learning outside. We follow the national curriculum as it reflects our ambition for our pupils, families and communities. We make sure that children are prepared for the next steps in their education and also enjoy their time at Valley Road. Everyone is expected to work hard and each day we ‘Tune into Teams’ where we encourage and support each other. We reward good attendance and punctuality and celebrate this every week as a whole school.
We update our website each week to share the fantastic achievements of our children. Our Inspection Report in October 2022 says this:
This is a warm and welcoming school. Leaders make sure that pupils and staff are valued as members of the school community. Staff look after pupils well. Staff take the time to listen to pupils who have any concerns. Pupils are happy and feel safe. Parents are very positive about the school. They especially enjoy the craft afternoons, where parents and carers are invited into school to work with their children, promoting the school’s ‘working together’ approach.
