Welcome to Year 2
What a fantastic start we’ve had! In PSHE, we have read ‘The Colour Monster’ and talked about how we manage our feelings. In Literacy, we wrote an acrostic poem about why we love Valley Road. We voted our class councillor, team captains and well-being ambassadors. The children have all settled in well and are so excited for their first trip to Lumley castle on Monday! Here’s to an amazing year together!
This week in Art, we have been experimenting with polka dots, using circles, we have been trying to recreate a version of Yayoi Kusama’s Obliteration Room. We then used clay to create pumpkins, that we will decorate next week!
This week in P.E, we have been learning new ball skills. We have been practising rolling and stopping a ball with the sole and inside of our foot. This was trickier than it sounds!
This week, Year 2 visited Lumley Castle as part of our new topic. We enjoyed looking inside and around the castle grounds and were able to identify features such as the drawbridge, the turrets and the watch tower. During our time in the Great Hall, we designed and built our own Lego castles, made a personal coat of arms and read spooky ghost stories. We can’t wait to find out more about castles in the next few weeks.
